Italian Honey Hot Toddy
Happy (cough…sniffle) New Year! I. Am. Sick….and our hot water heater went belly up last night. But what better way to say goodbye to the holidays and ring in the New Year than with a cold shower and a cold that was so lovingly spread from my daughter and son to the whole household and visiting family?! Ah…kids/sickness - family/sickness - togetherness/sickness - happy Christmas/sickness. It’s so (cough) wonderful! To be honest I never ended up taking that cold shower (thanks to my fantastic husband) and I could think of some better ways to say hello to the new year, but really I can’t be too upset because if it weren’t for this perfectly timed cold and the jar of Italian honey on my counter top I may have never tried this Hot Toddy recipe. And it is the perfectly delicious thing to warm your body and soul on a chilly evening…sick or healthy :)
This drink packs a little kick but it is soothing and relaxing and I found it hard to have just one. I loved the balance of tartness and sweetness between the lemon and honey and together they helped keep the bourbon (even though I love it) from taking over. As an added bonus in this hot toddy adventure, my most recent shipment of Italian goodies from Gusto di Roma included a beautiful little jar of Coriander Honey that was just sitting there waiting to be used. And since this Italian coriander honey is considered to have many health benefits, It only seemed appropriate to make my Hot Toddy an Italian Honey Hot Toddy.
3 Tablespoons (1 1/2 oz) bourbon*
1 Tablespoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 Tablespoon honey*
1/3 cup boiling water
Lemon slice to garnish
Add bourbon, lemon juice and honey to a heatproof glass.
Add boiling water and stir until combined.
Garnish with lemon slice….drink….relax.
*If you do not have an Italian coriander honey or bourbon then another type of honey and or whiskey of your choice can be used :)
